"This award recognizes teachers who strive to motivate students, have a positive impact on students’ reading, and inspire a love and appreciation of reading.” said Dr. Jamie Dawson, our Director of Literacy.
Mrs. Jackson was selected among an amazing group of teachers for her distinction in the secondary grades.
“She is the kind of teacher who shows her students that literacy is a tool for learning, thinking, and making sense of the world” said Dawson. “She teaches her students to read, write, think, and speak like scientists, while helping them see that literacy belongs in every classroom and every discipline."
Mrs. Brill was the recipient of the elementary level recognition.
“She is passionate about helping her students become capable and confident readers. She works hard to create a classroom where reading is engaging, exciting, and something students enjoy” Dawson said. “She builds meaningful relationships and a true community of readers, and many of those connections continue long after her students leave fifth grade."
Both Mrs. Jackson and Mrs. Brill will complete a professional portfolio that will go to the Spartanburg Council of the Palmetto State Literacy Association and each is eligible for the county-wide award, to be announced later this year. #D2DifferenceMakers

Congratulations to Cooley Springs-Fingerville Elementary's Korine Marler for earning the first recognition of the 2026-27 school year. #2sGotTalent Below is what her Music Teacher, Mr. Bullock, shared about her.
"Korine is an exceptional young musician whose leadership, dedication, and encouragement have made a lasting impact on our After-School Singers program. She is a wonderful advocate for the ensemble and has played an important role in helping the program grow. Last year, she earned the distinguished honor of participating in the South Carolina Elementary Honors Choir. She uses every opportunity to practice, comes prepared with her music learned, and willingly helps other students master their parts. Her positive attitude, strong work ethic, and genuine desire to see others succeed make her an outstanding role model and truly deserving of the Fine Arts Student Spotlight."

Both programs, welcomed students on June 1. Kelly McLean, an assistant principal in our district, is heading up the SRC based at Carlisle-Foster's Grove Elementary School.
"At SRC students work in smaller groups, so they get more intense instruction," McLean said. "When they come back to their home schools in August, they are more likely to remember how to put words together to make sentences and how to write stories, because they had that on going support for 5 weeks here at SRC."
Emily Brown, an interventionist at Boiling Springs Elementary, is guiding the SLA campus at Chesnee Elementary School.
"Our mission at SLA is to ensure our students to feel safe and loved as we are intentional about pushing them to new academic heights. Our weekly themes of perseverance, citizenship, courage, responsibility, and respect will be woven throughout our daily activities to encourage not just academic success, but also social and emotional growth.," Brown said. "We are excited to partner with families and our community as we celebrate the accomplishments and growth of our students this summer. "
Combined, the SLA and SRC will see more than 400 students receive top tier instruction from more than 70 staff members . McLean said this shows the commitment in our district to Making a Difference for Students Every Day!
"This program would not run without the teachers that are willing to devote their time in the summer. Here they are pouring into kids!"
